The machine that hosts riseup.net and numerous other sites died on Monday. We are working on getting it back up. Other riseup services, such as mail and lists, are not affected.
List delivery is delayed

Reminder: Riseup will NEVER ask you for your password

Riseup will never ask you for your password. If you get an email that claims to be from Riseup and asks for your password, it is someone trying to scam you. Do not ever give us your password. Never reply to an email requesting personal information. We would never ask for personal information via email. Avoid clicking on links in emails. It is easy for phishers to spoof website addresses. While the address may look to be legitimate, it can direct you to fraudulent sites instead. If you have any questions regarding the validity of an email sent to you, contact the organization that it purports to be from via their support system or web page to confirm it is really them before you provide any sensitive information.

Systems green following outage - More outages coming

All riseup systems are restarted following last night’s power outage. But there will be another two power outages next weekend. One will be Saturday night, March 22, around 18:00 PDT (01:00 GMT), the other will be on Sunday, March 23, around 00:30 PDT (07:30 GMT). We have no control over these outages as they are from our upstream provider. Plan accordingly and stay tuned.
Warning - Scheduled Mail & List Outage

The facility where our servers live is having a scheduled power outage this Thursday night / Friday morning, March 14. Riseup services will be OFFLINE during the outage. We hope the outage will only last for 2 hours or so around midnight Pacific Time Thursday night (Friday, 7:00AM GMT). However, it’s possible the outage could last longer. You will not be able to check or send email nor send messages to lists. Please plan accordingly and stay tuned for more updates.

Yay! Lists and mail are all caught up. We are presently updating our status-checking software, so don’t be alarmed if you look at status.riseup.net and it states “UNKNOWN” for all of our servers’ statuses. We’ll keep you posted here with the latest news from the land of Riseup.

Mail & Lists are catching up

Riseup’s servers are still recovering from the huge load of backlogged mail. It is difficult to estimate how long it will take for the servers to catch up, but they are working as hard as their circuits will allow. Please do not resend messages as this will just add to the backlog. Everything will be delivered in time.
Lists are catching up

List delivery was down for much of Tuesday, as many of you noticed. Delivery is now restored, but there are many messages in the queue, so it may take 8-12 hours for the lists to catch up. In the interim, please do not repost messages as this will just slow down everything and your subscribers will receive multiple copies. All messages will be delivered in time. Thanks for your patience!

If you think all your email and folders are missing, don’t worry. They are being restored. Delivery of new messages is happening, you can check your messages, but your old mail and folders aren’t there yet. We are first syncing over your INBOX folder from our backups, then once its finished we’ll sync the rest.

Riseup's servers are catching up!

Riseup birds labored all night long to bring you back your inboxes and folders. But while we fixed the problems, a huge backlog of messages accumulated (around 100,000!). Our servers are now busy processing the backlog of messages.
Old mail is being restored; delivery for mail and lists delayed

For those of you who have not received new email recently, we just turned delivery back on and messages that were in the queue are beginning to come in. Meanwhile, we are in the process of restoring the rest of the folders and inboxes, do not panic if all the mail you expected to be there is not there. It will be by the end of the day. Until everything catches up, mail and list delivery are delayed. Please have patience as riseup birds work to get everything fixed. &
Mail delivery problems

The current status is this: all users can read old email, but half of the users are unable to receive new email. To check if you are currently unable to receive new mail you can login at user.riseup.net and click on “Email”. If your “storage host” is set to cormorant.riseup.net, then all your incoming mail is getting pooled up waiting to be delivered. It will get delivered as soon as we can bring a replacement server online, hopefully within the next few hours.
Mail login troubles
